The Challenge

Helping Sponsored Entrepreneurs Build Sustainable Businesses

Corporate-sponsored entrepreneurs may have a viable business idea or opportunity but need additional guidance to develop the skills, systems and structure required to operate successfully.

Areas such as business strategy, marketing, sales, financial management, compliance and day-to-day operations can be difficult to manage without structured support.

The challenge was therefore to provide entrepreneurs with more than once-off training or financial support, but with ongoing coaching, mentorship and practical business development that could be applied directly to their businesses.

Our Business Growth Strategy

From Business Coaching to Ongoing Mentorship

My SME uses a structured approach that combines business coaching with practical business development.

Step 1 – Business Coaching
Entrepreneurs work through a structured 16-session programme covering the key areas of running a business.

Step 2 – Business Development
The entrepreneur’s business is developed through areas such as strategy, branding, website development, marketing and business systems.

Step 3 – Practical Support
For applicable ventures, My SME provides practical marketing and branding assets such as logos, flyers, menus and TV displays.

Step 4 – Weekly Mentorship
Ongoing mentorship helps entrepreneurs apply what they have learned and receive guidance as they develop their businesses.

Step 5 – Ongoing Development
The programme provides continued support as entrepreneurs work towards stronger business systems, financial understanding and sustainable growth.

The Results

Building Stronger Foundations for Sustainable Business Growth

The programme gives sponsored entrepreneurs structured support across the key areas of business development, including strategy, branding, marketing, sales, operations, financial management and compliance.

Rather than focusing only on training, the combination of coaching, practical development and ongoing mentorship helps entrepreneurs apply what they learn to their own businesses.

For coffee-shop ventures, this can also include the practical development of their customer-facing brand through logo design, menus, flyers and TV display designs.

Project Impact

Combining Coaching With Practical Business Support

The project demonstrates how Enterprise and Supplier Development can support entrepreneurs beyond financial investment.

Through structured coaching and ongoing mentorship, entrepreneurs receive guidance across the different areas involved in establishing and managing a business. Corporate sponsors can also benefit from a more structured framework for supporting and monitoring the development of sponsored ventures.

My SME’s approach is designed to connect business education with practical application, helping entrepreneurs build stronger foundations for their next stage of development.

The My SME Business Growth Journey

Enterprise Development That Combines Strategy, Mentorship & Practical Support

My SME takes an integrated approach to Enterprise and Supplier Development, bringing together business coaching, strategy, branding, digital development, marketing and ongoing mentorship.

The journey is designed to help entrepreneurs understand their businesses, strengthen their foundations and apply practical business principles as they develop.

Business Coaching → Strategy → Branding → Digital Development → Marketing → Mentorship → Ongoing Support

This approach allows My SME to support entrepreneurs beyond training alone, while giving corporate sponsors a structured framework for their ESD initiatives.

Conclusion

Turning ESD Investment Into Practical Business Development

Enterprise and Supplier Development can play an important role in helping entrepreneurs move from having a business opportunity to building a business that is structured, professionally managed and positioned for continued development.

However, meaningful business development requires more than financial investment or once-off training. Entrepreneurs need the opportunity to develop their understanding of business while receiving practical guidance as they apply that knowledge to their own ventures.

My SME’s ESD approach brings these elements together through a combination of structured business coaching, weekly mentorship and practical business-development support. The 16-session programme covers the key areas of running a business, from product and service development, strategy and branding through to marketing, sales, financial management, compliance, leadership and business planning.

This is supported by ongoing mentorship, allowing entrepreneurs to receive guidance as they work through the real challenges of developing and managing their businesses.

For corporate sponsors, the approach provides a structured framework for supporting entrepreneurs through their Enterprise and Supplier Development initiatives. It creates a clear development journey while allowing the support provided to be tailored around the needs of each sponsored business.

Through partnerships such as the work with TsAfrika and Tsebo, My SME helps connect corporate ESD investment with practical business development — supporting entrepreneurs with the knowledge, structure, tools and ongoing guidance needed to strengthen their businesses and work towards sustainable growth.
