Siyabonga Africa sponsored an Enterprise and Supplier Development programme focused on supporting emerging entrepreneurs in South African communities.
The project included Inyathi Wear, The AproNest, MK Denim, Satin Aesthetic and Pnosi, representing different opportunities across fashion, clothing, beauty and related consumer businesses.
My SME provided the business-development component of the programme, helping entrepreneurs develop their understanding of business fundamentals while establishing the practical foundations needed to operate more professionally.
The programme covered business coaching, pricing, sales, strategy, branding, website development, marketing, online presence, business systems and ongoing support.
The broader Siyakhula programme is focused on incubating township entrepreneurs and informal traders and supporting them through a structured process towards more sustainable businesses. Siyabonga Africa also identifies sewing cooperatives as one of its community-focused enterprise models.
The programme provided entrepreneurs with a structured development journey covering both business knowledge and practical business development.
Project scope included:
Starting a business requires more than having a good product or skill. Emerging entrepreneurs also need to understand pricing, sales, customers, branding and how to manage their business effectively.
For community-based entrepreneurs, developing these areas can be challenging without structured guidance and practical support. The programme focused on helping each entrepreneur build a stronger understanding of their business while putting the foundations in place for future growth.
The aim was to help entrepreneurs move from having an idea or product to developing a more structured, professional and sustainable business.
The Siyabonga Africa project created a structured development journey for five emerging businesses.
Through the programme, entrepreneurs received both business education and practical business-development tools.
The development outcomes included:
The project demonstrates that Enterprise and Supplier Development can extend beyond financial assistance by combining entrepreneurial education, practical business development and ongoing support.
The Siyabonga Africa project demonstrates how Enterprise and Supplier Development can support entrepreneurs through a combination of knowledge, practical tools and business development.
The five participating businesses — Inyathi Wear, The AproNest, MK Denim, Satin Aesthetic and Pnosi — received support across different areas of business development, while working towards the common objective of building stronger and more sustainable ventures.
For the entrepreneurs, this meant access to structured business coaching and practical development support.
For the project sponsor, it created a structured Enterprise and Supplier Development initiative with defined areas of development across business knowledge, branding, digital presence, marketing and management.
This approach also complements Siyabonga Africa’s wider Siyakhula model, which focuses on structured support for township entrepreneurs and informal traders, including mentorship, business formalisation, market access and financial support.
